Meed Mor @ Meed Satra @ Meed Thep Satra @ Thep Nit Meed

Meed Mor is a folk word of describing a medic or specialist knife. In Thai, “Meed” means “Knife” and “Mor” means “Phor Mor” or guru. In a simple word, Meed Mor literally means a knife created by a specialist according to the sacred sciences. It also has two other formal names, “Meed Dhep Sattra” - '' God's knife''  and  “Meed Prab Pairee” -  ''Conquering Knife''.

Adapted from Lek Watruak

There are several prominent guru monks, who are / were highly respected for their efficacious meed mors, such as;

a.       Luang Phor Doem, Wat Nong Pho
b.      Luang Phor Noi, Wat Nong Pho
c.       Luang Phor Kant, Wat Kao Kaew
d.      Luang Phor Soke, Wat Pakklongbangkrok
e.       Luang Phor Kun, Wat Khaokaew
f.       Luang Phor Kuay, Wat Kositaram
g.      Luang Phor Joy, Wat Sri-umporn
h.      Luang Phor Ode, Wat Junsen.
i.        Luang Phor Pern, Wat Bang Phra
j.        Kru Bar Inn, Wat Thung Pui
k.      Luang Pu Kalong, Wat Khao Lam
l.        Luang Pu Pien, Wat Kern Khatin
m.    Luang Pu Hong, Wat Petchburi
n.      Luang Pu Rit, Wat Chan Phra Than
o.      Luang Phor Aird, Wat Nong Moh Kang
p.      etc

Differs guru monks might use the differ “Wichah” sciences in creating Meed Mor same goes with he materials used. Differs guru monks might use the differs material as their main medium of making meed mor. Most of the meed mor made by guru monks were used / mixed with the Lek Namphee steel. This is because Lek Namphee steel is widely known as the symbol of absolute power. It is said to be protected by guardians of the Namphee mines and with the fact that these swords were traditionally made for kings and only high ranking Siamese officers. The steel is said to posses the qualities of neutralizing the  spells and curses. Like the qualities of the 'Lek Lai' in legend, the “Namphee Meed Mor” is widely known to be enable to absorb evil forces, and even can protect the owner from mishap and black magic.

“Lek Namphee” is miracle mineral that was found out more hundred years. The only place in Thailand where the rare Namphee ore can be found is Namphee, which is situated in Thong Saeng Kaan district, Uttaradit province ( 7 hours north of Bangkok). Thais believe that “Lek Namphee” is sacred substance and only used for / during ancient time to make Sacred Weapon. According to Thai War Strategy Method, Lek Namphee is great of holy metal that has sacred things live in Lek Namphee.

Moreover, Lek Namphee has a supernatural power of making the worshipper to be invulnerable and save from weapon, black magic and disaster. On the other hand, the weapons which make from Lek Namphee can destroy witchcraft or any magical experts who are invulnerable. The history evidences and literatures stated that most of Thai great warrior and king owned the sacred sword that made of Lek Namphee such as:

1.      Halberd of King Naresuan Maharaj
King Naresuan the Great who declared Siamese independence after the famous fight with the Burmese viceroy on elephant back. The King's weapons were made from the Namphee steel.

2.      Sword of King Somdej Phra Naresuan
After the greatly expanding the Siamese lands in the reign of King Naresuan, the golden era of Ayuddhaya was reestablished during the reign of King Narai the Great. The regal sword of King Narai was made from the Namphee steel. Blessed and charmed to negate and neutralize all evil and harm. Khun Luang Sorasak, later used this imperial sword to vanquish the enemies of Ayuddhaya in battle.

3.      Sword of Khun Paen
The great soldier of Phra Ramathibodi the II whom legends were told after possessed a Namphee sword called the 'Daab Fa Fuen'. The eerie making of this sacred sword can be heard in the story of Khun Paen. This sword now is safe kept in the National Museum in Bangkok.

4.      Sword of Phaya Phichai Dab Hak
Phraya Pichai (the Governor of Uttaradit), the brave general of King Taksin the Great (who declared independence from the Burmese after the second fall of Ayuddhaya), went into battle with a Namphee sword named "Nantakawut" in his left hand and an ordinary sword in his right. After his victory, the right hand sword was broken and hence the name "Dab Hak" or "Broken Sword". Thais believed  that the namphee sword in his left was used as a guard for protection and as a second weapon due to the steel's superb qualities.

5.      Sword of King Rama VII
Following the coronation of the past King Rama VII of (the current House of Chakri), Phraya Visetachai an officer of the Uttaradit province presented His Majesty with a sword made from Namphee steel. It is placed in the collection of the Royal Weapons (Phra Saeng Sastrawut) to this day.

Besides the using of the rare and sacred Namphee ions, the meed mor craftman / maker will normally inscribe  ( punched ) the ancient Khmer 'Nakh', ‘Nakh Makh Akh Ukh’, 'Maha Ukh Akh Mak'’ Nak Mor Phut Thak Yakh’ and  ‘ Nak Mak Phak Thak’ incantations on the blade. At the near tip and the handle of the blade various yantras are normally inscribed ( hand punched ). Bear I mind that, most of the REAL AUTHENTIC  and EFFACTIOUS meed mor were 100% HAND CRAFTED / PUNCHED YANTRA. Most of the prominent meed mor blade were hand made and not via modern  crafter / chisel machine.

I used to follow my grandpa to help the young girl suffered from Namman Prai Phi Tai Hong, when we arrived there ( Kampung Lubuk Stol ), the spirit of the NMP was communicating with the Lubuk Stol Malays bomoh, the girl was possed by the the spirit. Upon entering the house I was shocked by the loud screamed of the young girl. The girl keep on shouting and yelling in Southern Thai Malay Language.

“Cis, ore tuo bawo gajah dan pisa mari doh, nok bunuh aku la tu !”
(An idiot old man, you bring an elephant and knife to exorcist me !)

Upon entering the girl’s room, the girl keep on yelling and instructing my grandapa to take a distance and not to come near to her. My grandpa whipped out  his Phra Phikanet Meed Mor and pointed directly to the girl and i saw and heard my grandpa  mouth murmuring with the khatas. Suddenly the girl screamed for her life and yelled at my grandpa…..

“sakit, sakit tolong jange bunuh aku, aku tubik, aku tubik “
( it’s hurt, please don’t kill me, I will leave this body as ordered )

The girl then fainted and unconscious. My grandpa asked for three type of differs colour flowers and bucket of well water, then he used his meed mor, drew a circle and made a nammbun. My grandpa splashed the nammbun and the girl slowly gained conscious and started to communicate with her parents.

While on our way back home, I asked my grandpa. What are the verses / khatas used when he pointed the meed mor toward that young girl. My grandpa smiled at me and said………

“phuthang praksithi may, thammang praksithi may, sangkhang praksithi may”

That’s it ! Just a simple khata, meed mor and his BARAMEE yet SAKSIT, the namman prai spirit was corned and left the girl body without any demands and fights !

Similar to Mai Thaw @ Tongkat, most of the Meed Mor can be used / applied in various way of uses / purposes.  My grandpa used to say that, Meed Mor can be used in 108 ways And perhaps 1001 ways. It’s all depends on the wearer or the owners. It’s all about ; material to finish the meed mor, guru who made the meed mor, the wearer and the most important yet crucial part is khata – incantation to evoke the super power of the meed mor, otherwise your meed mor will just a decorative knife that not much different with your kitchen / pen knife.
